Division 7 is the Upper Midwest Region of the Hobie Class Association
2010-2011 Division 7 Officers
Chair - Todd Wilson
Todd races a Hobie 16 with his wife Angie and a Hobie 17 recently acquired. Todd has been an active member of Hobie Division 7 for over 20 years and is a current member of both Fleet 10 in Clear Lake and Fleet 84 in Des Moines. He has chaired 3 North American Championships in Clear Lake and loves to help promote Hobie racing in any way possible. Feel free to contact Todd at turningtodd@yahoo.com or by phone at 641-691-0203.
Vice-Chair - Jamie Mauk
Jamie Mauk is one of the nicest guys you will meet in Division 7. His love of Hobies ranges from his past Hobie 20, his refurbished Hobie 14, and his now competitive Hobie 16. Jamie recently married Stacy and they are currently expecting their first new Hobie member due in March! Jamie helps D7 coordinate our schedule with the surrounding divisions and assists Ryan in soliciting our advertisers. Jamie is an active member of Fleet 84 in Des Moines and can be reached at jamisonmauk@msn.com.
Secretary - Ryan Richardson
Ryan has been an active member for many many years. He recently won our Sportsperson of the year award and was thus the D7 nomination for the Hobie Class Carlton Tucker Award. Ryan loves Hobie Sailing and sailing in general. He dedicates a huge amount of his summer time as a sailing instructor in Storm Lake and volunteers over and over to help with race committee duties. Ryan maintains our D7 meeting minutes, D7 advertisers, and currently publishes our D7 annual book. Ryan is an active member of both Fleet 84 and Fleet 475 in Storm Lake, he can be reached at richarry@knoxville.k12.ia.us.
Treasurer - Slim Johnson
Slim is one of our most competitive Hobie 16 sailors in D7 and the Hobie Class Association. Every year Slim is ranked in the top 15 in North America...yet it's not his competitive status that sets Slim apart...it's his willingness to share his experience with anyone who asks. Slim will look your boat over and help you with ideas to make sailing more fun and fast at the same time. He will review your racing tactics and give you insight on what to do next time to make your results better....all with a BIG Smile on his face! Slim attends nearly every D7 regatta and is always willing to lend a hand at events he isn't racing at. Slim is known in the Hobie community around the world and is by far our most well know ambassador within the Hobie Class Association. If you want to meet new and old Hobie Sailors alike...hang out with Slim at a North Americans or Area Championships...there will be stories told that will make you want to follow in Slims Sails. Slim handles Division 7's accounting and can be reached at gljohnson@butterfieldfoods.com.
Membership and Awards - Andy Larson
Andy....what can be said about Andy....he is just that kind of guy everyone wants to be friends with. Andy loves having fun, he loves promoting Hobie sailing, and he loves to make sure EVERYONE has a good time at regattas. Andy sails a Hobie 20 with one of his twin daughters, Alex and also races a Hobie 17. No matter the conditions you will find Andy raring to go...sails up and dressed for the event. He seems to have no fear of conditions others would shutter at, and yet has a blast even when he's capsized multiple times over. Andy is our D7 contact for new membership and collects nominations for our 3 D7 awards. If you fill out our contact form, it goes to Andy, and he helps answer or direct you to Hobie Cat fun. If you have seen exemplary sportsmanship or performance please send Andy an email with your awards nomination. Andy is a member of Storm Lake's Fleet 475 and can be reached at larsona@iw.net.
